QC, MADLSA discuss businessmen’s demands and grievances on amendments to labour law

The Qatar Chamber on Sunday hosted a meeting with the Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidli to review businessmen’s concerns and views on the impact of the recent labour amendments on the private sector.

The meeting was presided over QC Chairman H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani in the presence of QC’s First Vice Chairman HE Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari, Second Vice-Chairman H.E. Rashid bin Hamad Al Athba, a number of board members and General Manager Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.

During the meeting, the Chamber reviewed observations and suggestions of businessmen in light of the newly issued labour amendments which allow workers to change jobs between private sector companies.

The Chamber put forward some proposals to MADLSA to be included in the procedures pertaining to labour affairs in a way that ensures the interests of all parties; employers, companies and workers.

During the discussions, both sides agreed to enhance coordination through their joint committees to discuss all issues related to labour and workers so that these committees convene regularly to solve any obstacles and ensure there is no harm to companies, employers or workers.

For his part, QC Chairman H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani stressed the need for strengthening continuous coordination between the Chamber and the Ministry to discuss the Chamber’s proposals and feedback it received from business sectors on the labour laws and legislation.

Sheikh Khalifa praised the Ministry’s constant response with the Chamber’s call to tackle all issues related to the private sector the Ministry’s competencies.

The Chamber will continue to discuss claims and grievances of employers with the Ministry regarding recent amendments to labour laws. We also will continue to coordinate with the Ministry to ensure the rights of all parties, Sheikh Khalifa stressed.

For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at MADLSA Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidli stressed the Ministry’s full support for the private sector and its concern that the implementation of the new laws will safeguard the rights of all parties.

“MADLSA will not accept any damages to Qatari employers and companies. The Ministry is committed to applying rules and procedures on changing jobs between private sector companies. It highly welcomes the coordination with the Chamber on employers’ claims and grievances about the movement of labourers.” he added.
