As part of the ongoing coordination between Qatar Rail and the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Civil Defense, Qatar Rail organised a business tour to Japan that commenced on February 8 and lasted for 3 days. The business tour was organised in collaboration with the Japanese Mitsubishi group for civil defense and locomotive engineers in Qatar, to learn firsthand the latest technologies in material used in the manufacture of metro rolling stock and the extent of its resistance to fire.
The business tour kicked off with a visit to the Mitsubishi train laboratory in Mihhara followed by a visit to the Kinki Sharyo Co. Ltd. Rolling stock factory on the second day where delegates were given a visual presentation by Kinki Sharyo experts on some of the materials used in manufacturing rolling stock and how these specific materials are resistant to fires. On the third and last day of the tour, delegates visited a laboratory in Tsukuba and witnessed live fire experiments on sample materials used in metro rolling stock flooring.
Commenting on the tour, Eng. Hassan Ahmed Marwani, Executive Director of Technical Affairs at Qatar Rail said, “Witnessing these experiments firsthand adds a wealth of knowledge and experience to Qatari engineers. As such, we at Qatar Rail are keen on arranging these types of activities for our junior engineers and technicians as well as the more seasoned Qatari engineers specialised in the fields of materials and inspection at the General Directorate of Civil Defense. It is noteworthy to mention that this is not the first tour organised by Qatar Rail for civil defense specialists, as it was preceded by a similar tour last September where a tour to Berlin was organised with the aim learning about the evacuation and emergency plans adopted in Germany.
The delegation comprising Qatar Rail and the General Directorate of Civil Defense included Eng. Hassan Ahmed Marwani, Technical Affairs Director, Mr. Keith Devany, Rolling Stock Director, Eng. Hamad Ahmad Al Mohannadi, Rolling Stock Engineer, Eng. Salah Nasser al-Saadi, Mechanical Engineer, and Mr. Ali Attiyatallah Al Shuraim, Technical Relations Officer, representing the Qatar Rail side as well as engineers representing the Qatari Civil Defense side.
