Qatar Finance and Business Academy (QFBA), has announced the launch of Northumbria University, UK in Qatar to offer degrees in Accounting, Finance & Investments and International Banking that have been approved by Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The announcement was made during a press conference held today at QFBA premises, in the presence of H.E. the British Ambassador to Qatar Mr. Ajay Sharma, VIP guests, and representatives of the media.

Northumbria University is a public university from United Kingdom, with more than 35,000 students from 140 countries around the world. Founded in 1880, the University has a distinguished academic history for more than 135 years, and its programs are accredited by leading professional institutions around the world. The University has been recognized as one of the top universities in the UK for their successful job placement for graduates within 6 months of graduating.

The university is located at QFBA, in West Bay. This is an important opportunity for high school graduates who are looking for a university degree from a UK-based university located in Qatar.

On this occasion, Dr. Mohamed Abdullah al-Emadi, Acting CEO of QFBA, said:

He added: “With the launch of the partnership with Northumbria University, we are opening a world of unique educational opportunities for young generations of Qatar to boost their knowledge, potential and skills to the level of competition in the labor market, not only in Qatar but anywhere in the world, as it provides quality programs that propel them toward new career prospects - especially in the areas of Finance, accounting and banking - and help them claim prominent positions in the financial and economic sectors in the country as well as lead the development process, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Speaking at the event, Mr. Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, Chief Executive Officer, QFC Authority stated:

“In 2009, we established the Qatar Finance and Business Academy to raise the financial services industry standards and help organisations and professionals achieve their learning and business objectives. Today, I stand here with pride as we take this significant step towards providing the highest level of education and preparation for our new generation of leaders and shapers.”

He continued: “At the QFC, we put great importance in the youth and their role in transforming Qatar into a knowledge based economy. Our diversification efforts will be fueled by today’s students as they continue to innovate and find new ways for Qatar to shine.”

On his part, Professor John Wilson, Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria University, said:

“The launch of Northumbria University in Qatar is a great occasion to express our pleasure and enthusiasm to contribute to the educational process in Qatar by providing our accumulated academic experience over 135 years of outstanding work with students. We are pleased to launch this collaboration with QFBA to provide the Academy’s undergraduate students as well as graduates with excellent courses that will help them develop their knowledge and enable them to compete in the global labor market. The event comes in line with QFBA’s mission to raise the standards of the financial services sector and to help organizations and professionals achieve their education and business goals by building professional capacities, as well as providing the financial sector in Qatar and the region with a generation of qualified young talents, in order to raise the bar of performance in companies and corporations and to help establish Qatar as a preferred financial center that attracts business and investment.
