Qatar Development Bank (QDB) has announced the organization of a bilateral meeting between Qatari and Moroccan importers and companies to promote trade operations and encourage opportunities for current and first-time Qatari exporters to the Moroccan market. The meeting will take place from September 30 until October 2. Qatar Development Bank through its export arm Tasdeer has coordinated the meeting in support of Qatari non-hydrocarbon exports and its aim to provide opportunities for local companies to branch into new markets, specifically focusing on helping to reduce risks related to the sale of local products abroad. This is part of QDB’s annual initiative to introduce the local business and export community to new and expanding opportunities across the globe, with the intention of increasing Qatari exports and maximizing revenues. Commenting on this, Mr. Abdul Aziz bin Nasser Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of QDB, said: "We are proud to complement our efforts in promoting Qatari exports in new markets. Morocco was chosen this year and due to its vast business opportunities, as well as to support the state's efforts to increase trade between the two countries." He added: "Numerous studies were undertaken with specialized companies to identify new export opportunities for 13 products from key Qatari industries to match the Moroccan market’s needs. We are confident these meetings will encourage and nurture trade and exchange agreements between Qatari private sector companies and their Moroccan counterparts - ultimately promoting Qatari products internationally." In May, QDB organized a similar meeting in Tunisia that resulted in numerous new business opportunities. It showcased a wide range of major products manufactured in Qatar to attract the Tunisian importers, including more than 22 products from the plastic, electrical, aluminum and meat industry sectors. QDB has participated in many business events in Morocco, including Plast Expo 2013 that supported 12 Qatari plastic exporters, providing an opportunity for their products and services to be showed to more than 2,800 delegates and 150 exhibiting companies. Due to the initiatives launched by QDB to support the private sector and support local SMEs, domestic exports have registered remarkable growth. They have provided importers with a chance to target new markets outside the Gulf and arrange meetings between local exporters and importers around the world. Additionally, organized workshops on industry related topics have been critical in raising awareness of untapped export opportunities.
