Oryx GTL is fuelling school buses with GTL synthetic diesel as part of a special project.
Over the coming months, the company will demonstrate the practical benefits of its clean-burning GTL synthetic diesel in Qatar, according to a statement.
The initiative, which involves a close collaboration between the Supreme Education Council (SEC), Mowasalat and Qatar Fuel (Woqod), is an integral part of Oryx GTL’s strategy to raise awareness of the benefits of its clean and environment-friendly fuels.
The project, which started on September 21, will use Oryx GTL synthetic diesel - a high-specification fuel meeting the strictest international standards on particulate emissions – to power school buses owned by Mowasalat and dedicated to the SEC.
Oryx GTL is also collaborating with Qatar University and Texas A&M University at Qatar to conduct an analysis in order to compare the performance of the GTL-fuelled buses to those powered by conventional petroleum-based diesel.
Mowasalat will supply 20 buses allocated from the fleet of new school buses for a 2-3-month period. Ten buses will run on conventional diesel and another 10 on GTL synthetic diesel.
Woqod will provide transportation of the fuels and manage fuelling of the buses.
Oryx GTL will supply the GTL synthetic diesel for the project and conduct several experiments to compare the operation of the buses, environmental impact and engine wear and tear through evaluation of the engine oil by local universities, without interruption to the services, the statement adds.
HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi said: “We support this initiative as we believe that our students deserve to enjoy the opportunity to discover the future of transport through a locally produced product, with less noise and less pollution.”
Abdulrahman M al-Suwaidi, CEO of Oryx GTL, said: “The demand for diesel as a transportation fuel is growing and, therefore, the future looks positive for GTL diesel.”
