In cooperation with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), the Qatar Chamber has launched an online platform with a view to facilitating the re-employment of skilled labourers in the local market.

The platform will be available via the Chamber’s website to enable companies to reveal their laid-off employees or workers through filling dedicated forms for each employee or worker and attaching the required documents.

The agreement to develop this platform for the private sector came during a meeting of the joint coordination committee between the Ministry and the Chamber, in the presence of the Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at MADLSA Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidli and Qatar Chamber’s Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.

In press statements, Saleh Al Sharqi said that the platform aims to provide the opportunity for companies seeking to hire new labourers to contract with the laid-off employees due to the repercussions of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He noted that it allows firms seeking to hire new workers to choose appropriate labourers for the jobs they offer according to the required professions.

Al Sharqi assured that the platform aims at securing continuity of businesses and projects in the local market and helping companies find skilled labourers through contracting with laid-off workers from other companies, thus avoiding any shortage of labourers that may cause the failure of projects of these companies.

He also added that this initiative stressed the Chamber’s commitment towards the private sector, especially in the current circumstances, noting that it also came as part of the private sector’s contribution to the Ministry’s strategic projects, which aim to enhance cooperation with the private sector in providing alternatives for Qatari businessmen, while ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 and relevant legislation and decisions.

He added that labourers re-employment would have a positive impact on the economic and investment activity.

QC’s Director General also noted that the platform would help in coordinating between companies seeking new workers with those that released workers within the framework of the joint coordination between the Ministry and the Chamber.

He also said that after submitting the application through the platform, it is transferred to the Ministry to review it, examine the company’s status, and ensure that the application is in accordance with procedures established by the Ministry.

Al Sharqi pointed out that the platform’s second stage will be launched later to include more services.
