QatarEnergy revealed an agreement with the German side to re-engage and progress discussions on long-term LNG supplies from Qatar to Germany between their respective commercial entities.

QatarEnergy said in a statement on 20 March 2022:

"QatarEnergy has been discussing the supply of Qatari LNG to Germany for a number of years with German companies. However, until recently, such discussions did not materialize into definitive agreements due to the lack of clarity on the long-term role of gas in Germanys energy mix and the requisite LNG import infrastructure".

The statement added that the German side confirmed that the German Government has taken swift and concrete actions to fast-track the development of two LNG receiving terminals in Germany as a matter of priority to allow for the long-term import of LNG to Germany and that such scheme has the full support of the German government.

This comes in line with Germany's intention to withdraw from the current energy dependency on Russia amidst the crisis.

Based on the article by Deutsche Welle, Germany's international broadcaster, we understand that discussions have reached a feasible stage as a deal has been secured as mentioned by the spokesperson for the German Economy Ministry in Berlin. It was mentioned that the companies that have come to Qatar with the German Economic Minister Robert Habeck will now enter into contract negotiations with the Qatari side.
