The Qatar Postal Services Company (Q-Post) is embarking upon an ambitious project “Plane without pilot”, where it would deploy drones to send packages to the customer’s doorsteps.
Informing this yesterday, Q-Post chairman Faleh al-Naiemi said the project is expected to be launched after six months.
So many mandatory procedures need to be completed before the project takes off, said al-Naiemi, while pointing out that a number of postal services across the world are already having similar facilities to meet customer requirements.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications signed an MoU with the Qatar Postal Services Company to develop the project.
Al-Naiemi said that the postal company was working out plans on a war footing to make available the services of global level e-commerce providers Alibaba.com, from
China.
The tie-up with Alibaba.com is expected to materialise within six weeks. As part of its efforts to strengthen the e-commerce platform, Qatar Postal Services Company is also exploring the possibility of similar tie-ups in the coming weeks. (Source)
