Doha Municipality shut 192 food outlets last year

The Doha Municipality closed down 192 food outlets last year for violating the health and safety regulations. According to the annual report of the health monitoring section at the Municipality, municipal inspectors conducted as high as 32,000 inspections during the year and recorded 3,587 violations, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday. The violations ranged from a failure to meet health and safety requirements to operating without a valid licence. A total of 5,528 tonnes of food were destroyed during the year that were found unfit for human consumption. The inspectors collected 1,363 food samples for laboratory tests, of which 17 were found unfit for human consumption. Ninety samples didn’t meet the required standards and specification while 1,256 samples were found fit for consumption, said the daily.
