Doha Festival City has announced that it will open its retail mall to the public on September 29, 2016.
Countdown clocks have already been installed throughout the development offices, reflecting the staff and management’s commitment to deliver the shopping and entertainment destination to Qatar on that date, as scheduled, according to a statement.
Doha Festival City CEO Kareem Shamma said, “There is a heightened sense of excitement among the project’s stakeholders as we begin our countdown to opening. Senior management, consultants and contractors are all sharing in this effort to ensure that this wonderful development opens its doors, as promised, at the end of September 2016, to the public.
“The clocks are a reminder to all those involved to ‘step up a gear’ as we approach the final phases of the mall completion.”
Ahead of the opening, Doha Festival City has invited its partners, including committed retail tenants, to visit the project site on January 12, 2016, and see the extent of the progress made in readiness for the September 29 opening.
“We would like our valued partners, particularly the retailer groups that have committed to us, to share the excitement and come on the final leg of the journey with us by preparing for the big day well in advance. We look forward to welcoming the public to the mall at the end of September 2016,” Shamma added.
Construction on the 433,000sqm site began in October 2011 and the first phase of the project included the on-time delivery of the first and only IKEA store in Qatar, which has been operating since March 2013, the statement notes.
Construction progress in the second phase, involving a retail mall with over 240,000sqm of gross leasable area, is under way, with the structure now firmly part of the Shamal Road landscape.
“The opening of the mall, along with its food court and 18-screen Vox cinemas, will be shortly followed by the opening of its unique and innovative entertainment offerings. A year later, the team will deliver a five-star hotel with a convention centre, as a third phase,” the statement adds.
