Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning Public Parks Department (MMUP-PPD) wants to meet the increasing demand for seedlings in Doha by delivering them to residents’ homes.
"Online orders from citizens and residents will now be delivered to their homes within two to three days," PPD agriculture engineer Dalia Sallam said.
She was speaking on the sidelines of an agreement signing between Abdullah Adbulghani & Bros Company and MMUP on Monday to promote public parks.
The PPD delivers a daily average of 150 different kinds of seasonal plants, flowers and lemon trees, among others, across Doha. Prices start from QR2 to a maximum of QR5 and some seasonal flowers cost QR0.50 per seedling.
The PPD prices are cheaper than in other nurseries in Doha, according to Sallam.
The onset of winter is known to be a good start to plant various varieties of seedlings, especially for those who have plenty of spaces at their homes.
While those who live in villas tend to use their backyard space for gardening and vegetable cultivation, apartment dwellers depend on balconies and rooftops to set up mini-gardens.
While the PPD focuses its programme in Doha, Sallam said they will expand their delivery if orders increase in the future.
For delivery, the PPD will be open from 7am to noon from Sunday to Thursday, she added.
