The visitors and shoppers at Al Khor Mall have one more reason to visit, this time, its installation of Grand Musical Piano on its long stairs which link ground floor to the first floor.
These are not pure, decorative pieces, however. The keys do work like real piano keys and with each step that a person takes, a note is produced. The sensors which are located at the sides of the stairs detect any movement on the steps and send electrical signals to a computer, which analyses them and produces a corresponding sound that is broadcast from the hidden speakers.
The piano stair is expected to attract more families to visit the mall and experience the fun first hand. The piano stairs play notes of a melody when people walk on them. They stimulate people to take the stairs instead of the escalator just next to it thereby promoting the active lifestyle.
An official spokesman of Lulu Hypermarkets Qatar, which operates the Al Khor Mall, said: “The element of fun can bring a change in the lifestyle of the people; the idea is to show that walking stairs can be a fun and healthy thing to do. We hope that by adding an idea of ‘fun’ to a mundane act like walking up or down on stairs, we can subtly coax our shoppers and visitors into a healthier lifestyle.”
The grand musical piano was inaugurated by the chief guest Saleh Mohamed Abdullah Al Kubaisi, manager for advertising department, Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, and other invitees include Nord Angelia International School, Al Khor.
The mall management has also lined up several mini events and activities to attract the general public at large, including the invitation to various schools.
The Al Khor Mall already has all the key elements required to make it a shopping destination ranging from various F&B option including a food court, fashion outlets, amusement center, large hypermarket, three screen cinemas, banks and various other service outlets with large parking spaces, and now with the addition of this attraction it surely is turning heads and bringing more footfalls.
