19 agreements on cooperation between Russia and Qatar were signed on June 4, 2021 at the National Pavilion of the State of Qatar, a guest country of SPIEF-2021. These agreements will give an impetus to the development of various spheres within both countries: from tourism to economic.

Today an agreement was signed on scientific and educational cooperation between Lomonosov Moscow State University and Qatar University (QU). The agreement establishes academic and research cooperation between the two universities. It is designed to promote internationalization in education, including the expansion of cultural ties and mutual educational and research activities.

“We are glad to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with a university of such reputation and renown as Moscow State University. Together we will continue working on implementation of educational and research projects,” said Dr. Hassan Al Derham, President of Qatar University.

“The agreement between MSU and Qatar University is of great importance, and not only for both universities or the bilateral relations between Russia and Qatar. We expect the establishment of a partnership between MSU and one of the leading universities in the Persian Gulf to significantly enrich the Russian-Arab cooperation in the educational and scientific sphere and to give new dynamics to both its educational and research tracks,” said MSU Rector Academician Victor Sadovnichy after the signing ceremony.

An important milestone at the forum was the signing of an agreement of intent in the field of tourism development. The agreement was signed between Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) Secretary General and Qatar Airways (QA) Group CEO, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker and St. Petersburg Vice-Governor Maksim Sokolov in the presence of St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.

His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said: “Cooperation with the government of St. Petersburg offers a unique chance to open up our opportunities for travelers, while developing the tourism sphere of both countries. This partnership will allow implementing the concept of Qatar National Vision 2030.”

“This is an important step in the development of tourism between St. Petersburg and the State of Qatar. The pandemic became a severe trial for the tourism industry. There is a great need to restore regular year-round flights along Doha - Saint Petersburg route. The documents signed today will facilitate the solution to this problem,” said Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov.

On the part of Qatar Airways (QA) a memorandum was also signed with Northern Capital Gateway Company. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Roscongress Foundation and the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation (QRCC).

In the sphere of economy, agreements of understanding were signed between Qatar Stock Exchange and Saint-Petersburg Stock Exchange PJSC as well as between Qatar Financial Center and Moscow Innovation Cluster Fund. Qatar Financial Center also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Internet Initiatives Development Fund while Qatar Development Bank signed a memorandum of business cooperation with the Russian Export Center.
