Winners for this year's Fashion Trust Arabia selected online amidst coronavirus lockdown

Monday 11 May 2020 saw this year's Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) take place online amid the coronavirus lockdown issues and five young designers scoop up the prestigious awards.

These winners include Omer Asim, a Sudanese designer, for the ready-to-wear category; Ammanii, for the jewellery category; Andrea Wazen, footwear designer, for the accessories designer category; and Yousef Akbar, for the dedicated evening wear category. In addition, the the Sozzani Award for emerging talent was awarded to Zeid Hijazi, according to WWD.

Moderated by H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, this year's Virtual FTA 2020's highlights can be seen below:

This year's finals round of the FTA competition was supposed to take place at the National Museum of Qatar on 25 March 2020 with a panel of judges who were to see the collections of the 25 finalists - chosen from 100s of designers from the MENA region. Five winners were to be selected in the five womenswear categories that included ready-to-wear, jewellery, accessories and evening wear, according to CPP Luxury.

FTA is an annual non-profit organization that aims to provide financial and business support as well as international recognition to the dynamic fashion designers in the MENA region.

Fashion Trust Arabia launched in September 2018 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser as Honourary Chair and co-Chaired by H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa and Tania Fares, Founder of Fashion Trust.

FTA is the only initiative of its kind operating in the Arab world, dedicated to finding and nurturing talented designers.
