QNL celebrates Qatari heritage and world literature in December

Qatar National Library (QNL) will celebrate Qatar's creative culture and heritage through a variety of events that provide an opportunity for all people of Qatar to explore Qatar's books, arts and creative achievements, next December.

This event coincides with Qatar National Day (QND) celebrations , which falls on the 18th of December each year.

As part of its interest and support for Qatari writers, QNL will host on December 5 the launch of the first illustrated book by Qatari writer Jassim Al Mohannadi.

On December 15, the 'Historic Lines from Qatar' event will shed light on the Arabic calligraphies used in the writing of the Qur'an in Qatar, and the speeches and personal signatures of the most prominent personalities in the history of Qatar from the rulers and other historical figures reflecting many aspects of the economic and social life in Qatar in the past decades.

The event will include two lectures, the first one by calligrapher Obaida Al-Banki, who won the honor of writing 'Mushaf Qatar', and the second one presented by Sheikh Khalid Bin Ghanem Al-Thani on the blogs and notes of the rulers of Qatar.

On December 17, "My dream in Qatar" event will celebrate the Qatar National Day in a unique way, where young people aged 12 to 18 will have the opportunity to write their dreams for their future in Qatar on helium balloons that will be launched outside the library building.

Director of Research and Learning Services at QNL Abeer Al Kuwari said in a statement today that creativity is a great channel for expressing one's heritage and culture and the values from which a sense of identity and pride is derived, noting that the occasion of Qatar National Day, is an opportunity to renewed our ancient heritage and great culture.

On the other hand, QNL will host on December 26 the "Librarians in Qatar and Their Role in Information Literacy Development" event.

Regarding heritage preservation for future generations, QNL, in collaboration with UNESCO, will host a regional conference entitled "supporting the preservation of documentary heritage in the Arab region" on December 1and 2.

On December 5, the library hosts the monthly concert in a series of Philharmonic at the Library concert, in which the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will play "Album for the Young", by musician Tchaikovsky.

On December 10, Director of Historical Research and Partnerships at QNL Dr. James Onley, will give a lecture on Qatar history and its relationship with the British Indian Empire from 1916 to 1947. The lecture will be followed by a tour of the Library's exhibition.

From 12 to 14 December, the library also organizes the iconic Jaipur Literature Festival, which is being held for the first time in Qatar and the Arab world.
