Out of all the things by Qatar Museums right now, let’s tell you all about these four exhibitions by world-renowned artists and designers that are happening in Doha- we are sure you'll enjoy them!
If you love everything about fashion, then you’re going to love this exhibition for sure! The Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition is House of Dior’s first retrospective in the Middle East. It features a selection of pieces that have never been on display before, including pieces from the private collection of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser!
The exhibition was especially put together for Qatar and it is curated by Olivier Gabet and designed by Nathalie Crinière. It celebrates close to 75 years of creative excellence, accented by mesmerizing haute couture dresses and stunning works from the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. How amazing is this?
Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” is the first museum exhibition in the Middle East by the renowned American artist and designer. You can get to see nearly two decades of his work, of which 55 works are on display currently. It has been curated by Michael Darling in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and Samir Bantal from AMO/OMA. This is a great one to go to as the exhibition offers you a deep look at the late artist's varied work, from visual arts, fashion, music to architecture & design. This exhibition puts emphasis on dialogue, which Virgil Abloh created through his use of language and quotation marks, transforming the objects he designed and the people who wear his clothing into ‘figures of speech’. Are you ready to 'question everything' in this exhibition?!
This is yet another exhibition to visit! Jeff Koons, one of the world’s best-known contemporary artists, currently has his first exhibition in the Gulf region in Qatar! Curated by Massimiliano Gioni, the exhibition, Jeff Koons: Lost in America, bridges pop-culture, minimalism and the readymade side of things.
At the exhibition you get to see more than sixty artworks curated from Koons’ four-decades-long career. It is divided into 16 galleries, where the artists introduces you to his memories, influences and fascination with American visual culture. The exhibition also includes his famous sculptures and paintings with mesmerizing, mirrored surfaces that reflect the viewers and draws them towards it.
A few of the iconic pieces on display are Rabbit (1986), Balloon Dog (Orange) (1994–2000) and Play-Doh (1994–2014) and many more! Don’t miss this great exhibition!
The Kader Attia: On Silence exhibition is curated by Abdellah Karroum with Assistant Curator Lina Ramadan. It features a wide range of work by the artist across multiple media and includes installations, collages, sculptures, photography and more! On Silence explores themes of postcolonial trauma and the following decades of psychiatric 'repair' at the social and individual level. This will surely provoke the viewer’s emotional and physical experience.
There are two important commissions featured in connection with Doha for the exhibition. These two works bring forth the idea of silence as a necessary state in every dialogue, along with voices, movement, imagination and emotion. Are you ready for this stunning experience?
