Two new public art pieces have been recently installed in Doha, according to H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's posts on social media.
In her posts, it's mentioned that the "Two Orchids" sculpture, located in Qatar National Theatre, is by world renowned German artist Isa Genzken in collaboration with the Supervising Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar; initiated by the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’.
"Rife with ambiguities, the “Two Orchids” sculpture depicts a powerful celebration of life while its perennial existence inevitably suggests our own mortality. It also reflects the fragility, elegance, and beauty commonly associated with the flower's image."
Meanwhile, the “Untitled (Trench, Shafts, Pit, Tunnel and Chamber)” was created as part of a series of works made by world-renowned American sculptor Bruce Nauman in the late 70’s. The artwork is part of Qatar-USA Year of Culture program and located in front of M7 at Msheireb Downtown Doha. H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani also mentioned that there will be "more artworks to be added across Qatar as part of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture and in preparation for Qatar-USA 50 years of bilateral relations next year."
