9th Traditional Dhow Festival kicks off at Katara

Under the patronage of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Katara 9th Traditional Dhow Festival kicked off at Katara's beach on Tuesday.

The Festival was opened by General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, in the presence of H.E. Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani, H.E. former Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Nabet, a number of Their Excellencies Ambassadors accredited to the State, officials and a large crowd.

Katara 9th Traditional Dhow Festival will showcase programs rich in various cultural, educational and recreational activities, featuring distinguished local, regional and international participations from 11 countries.

The attendees toured the Festival site and its various pavilions, as well as the handicraft market which showcases handicrafts offered by marine life and related jobs. Some folk bands presented traditional lyrical arts.

Speaking on the occasion, Katara General Manager Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said that the Traditional Dhow Festival is one of the most prominent festivals organized by the Cultural Village Foundation and is witnessing a remarkable development from year to year, both in terms of activities and events or in term the number of countries participating in it.

He noted that, for the first time, the duration of the festival was extended to December 16, as it coincides with Doha hosting the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup. He expected that the Festival will see a large turnout by visitors and Gulf guests who will enjoy its diverse and distinctive activities.

He said that Katara 9th Traditional Dhow Festival affirms the keenness of the Cultural Village Foundation on reviving heritage in general and marine traditions in particular.
