Qatar's Champion Equestrian Showjumper Sheikh Ali Khalid Al-Thani

Horse racing is a part of Qatar’s traditions and a passion of many Qataris. Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani is one such Qatari. Born on 1 September 1982, Sheikh Ali is an equestrian and has taken part in many prestigious national and international showjumping events.

Sheikh Ali has always loved horses...

and took up riding when he was a child of eight years.

he had started showjumping and has never looked back since then.

Sheikh Ali’s biggest achievements as an equestrian are…

the Longines Global Champions Tour, competing in Rio 2016 Olympic Games and coming away with the silver medal of the individual event and the bronze medal of the team event in the 2018 Asian Games.

On home soil, he ranked first in the 2016 CSI4* Grand Prix of Katara, and the 2017 CSI5* H.H. Emir's Sword Grand Prix at Al Rayyan.

The 2014 Asian Games saw this 38-year-old win the Team Gold medal with Vienna Olympic.

In 2012 and 2013, he qualified for the FEI Showjumping World Cup Final. The FEI World Cup is a prestigious international showjumping competition that's held every year.

At the 2011 Pan-Arab Games, he won the Team Silver medal with Sieshof's Abraksas.

He also placed 4th with his team during the 2006 Asian Games, 6th at the 2007 Pan Arab Games in Cairo, 3rd at the 2007 CSI4* Grand Prix in Braunschweig.

being the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Global Champions League (GCL) team rider for Doha Fursan Qatar in a number of different showjumping event and, in 2019, the GCL team rider for the Doha Falcons at the GCL Madrid.

in April 2012, as he jumped 151 places in the Rolex rankings from 348th to 197th position.

Sheikh Ali is part of Team Qatar

and is trained by Johannes Augustinus Petrus "Jan" Tops - winner of the gold medal in the team jumping event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain and founder of the Global Champions Tour in 2006 - for the Qatar Olympic Committee.
