H.H. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born on 25 August 1978 to the ruling family of Qatar. He is H.H. The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s third son and his firstborn from his second wife, Her Highness (H.H.) Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Missned.

H.H. Sheikh Jassim was the Heir Apparent of Qatar but gave up his rights to become the next heir of the country on 5 August 2003 and gave the title to his brother H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani who is the Amir of Qatar since 2013.

Education

H.E. Sheikh Jassim went to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom (UK) and then went on to attend the International College, Sherborne School in the UK.

Responsibilities

After his graduation, on 9 August 1996, Sheikh Jassim was appointed as 2^nd Lieutenant of the Qatari Armed Forces. He was also his father’s (who was the Amir at the time) personal representative at the time. Today, he is the personal representative of H.H. The Amir Sheikh Tamim.

H.H. Sheikh Jassim has been the Qatar National Cancer Society’s (QNCS) honourary president since 1997 and the High Committee for Coordination and Follow Up chair since 1999. He is also Chair of the Supreme Council for the Environment and Natural resources since 2000, and the Aspire Academy’s patron since 2003.

H.H. Sheikh Jassim got married on 30 March 2006 at Qatar’s Al Wajbah Palace to Sheikha Buthaina bint Hamad Al Thani, the daughter of Hamad bin Ali Al Thani. Together, they have four daughters and three sons:

• H.E. Sheikha Mozah bint Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in February 2007.
• H.E. Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in 2008.
• H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in December 2009.
• H.E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in 2010.
• H.E Sheikh Tamim bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in 2014.
• H.E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in October 2015.
• H.E Sheikha Dhai bint Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in January 2018.

Honours

In 1997, H.H. Sheikh Jassim was conferred with the Grand Cordon (special grade) of the Supreme Order of the Renaissance (Jordan); in 2000, he was conferred with the Grand Cordon of the Order of Merit (Lebanon) and the Grand Cordon of the Order of Al Nahayyan (United Arab Emirates).
