Doha Metro has surely made it easier for residents and visitors to explore what Doha and nearby municipalities have to offer. For only QR 2 per trip, (Standard/Family) you can affordably reach any of the X stations currently operating. But what makes Qatar Rail, the company responsible for the country's rail network, even more awesome, is providing first and last-mile connectivity to its customers. You've probably been on a metrolink feeder bus, but have you tried the metroexpress? Scroll down to find out all about it!
Think of it as the Doha Metro's Uber service, except it's free (currently on free trial) and only works in selected areas. Unlike the metrolink which has a set schedule per bus, the metroexpress is an on-demand ride-sharing service. Passengers will be able to ride on a fleet of Mercedes Vito vans straight from one of the selected Metro stations.
Before COVID-19, the metroexpress can seat up to 7 passengers but due to the current restrictions, only 3 are allowed. No passenger is allowed beside the driver's seat, which is separated from the passengers via a plastic barrier.
Only registered Metro users who are heading to the designated Metro stations or those who have finished their Metro journey are allowed to use this complimentary service.
Like the other ride apps, you can book the metroexpress through a mobile app. You'll be asked to register your name, mobile number and email address. Upon booking, you just have to input your requested pick-up location and requested drop-off location. You can also choose how many passengers will be booking the ride. You will also be able to see how many minutes you need to wait before your metroexpress ride comes.
Download the app here: Google Play | App Store
The metroexpress is available in specific service zones. Currently, these are the selected Metro stations from where you can book the service to and from, according to Qatar Rail:
According to Qatar Rail's website, these are some of the areas served by the metroexpress through the metro stations stated above.
Through the app, you'll also be able to see the permitted locations wherein you can use the metroexpress service.
