Looking for things to do in Qatar? There's a new attraction in town! It's not only a fun place to visit but also an educational one! It's the Hamad Port Visitors Centre.
The ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team tells you what to expect here and why it must be on your list of places to explore! Let's go!
The Hamad Port Visitors Centre is a place that showcases the maritime history and achievements of Qatar. It has an aquarium, a maritime museum, a 4D cinema, a kids' play area and more.
This is the first of its kind in Qatar!
The aquarium is a place that will wow you! Explore and learn more about the aquatic life of the Arabian Gulf. Walk through the tunnel to find a variety of fish like Zebra Shark, Honeycomb Stingray, Emperor Red Snapper, Indo-Pacific Sergeant etc.
If you're lucky, you'll even get to spot a fish-feeding session!
Once you exit the tunnel, you will find a room with other kinds of fish like Moray Eels, Grouper, Banner Fish, Pearl Oysters, Clown Fish, Pufferfish and more in different tanks.
Don't miss checking out the Moon Jellyfish tank, filled with hundreds of these tiny creatures. You'll surely be mesmerised.
Another must-check-out feature is the Touch Tank, where you can touch Starfish and interact with the mangroves. This is a good learning opportunity, especially for kids.
Please ensure to touch the fish, and the mangroves only under the supervision of the staff present there.
While exiting the aquarium, you'll go through another tunnel filled with corals and the fish of the reefs.
Once you exit the aquarium, you'll find a small gift shop selling quirky sea-themed items, magnets, collectables and more! Do check it out and pick up some souvenirs!
This is one of the must-do things at the Hamad Port Visitors Centre. Enjoy the 4D cinema and learn about the port, its vision, resources and the work that went behind the delivery of the Hamad Port mega-project.
The Maritime Museum is a fantastic place to learn all about the Hamad Port, the different sections, understand how the maritime industry works, the history of Qatar's sea-faring days, the pearl diving era and the dhows.
You can also play fun and practical games here. Steer a cargo ship, operate a crane, learn about the invention of cargo containers, play a quick quiz and do so much more! You're going to love it!
Once you're done exploring the indoors, you can check out the outdoor kids' play area with slides, swings and more, the beautifully landscaped lawns, walking tracks, and the fountain feature at the other end of the play area.
The building has an auditorium, but it is not open to visitors. You will also find a small cafe serving juices, coffee and snacks. You can also check out TeaTime, located right outside the Hamad Port Visitors Centre, for a quick bite.
