The Ministry of Municipality and Environment opened yesterday the Desert Park in Al Shahaniya area. Director of Municipality of Al Shahaniya Jaber Al Jaber stressed that the opening of the Desert Park comes within the framework of the Ministry's efforts to establish public gardens and parks with an aim to increase green areas and recreation places to serve as an outlet for the people of the area.

The park is distinctive and serves the Shahaniya area; it is designed in the form of a desert tree, and it is also characterized by the presence of a number of wild trees and animals from the Qatari environment, and about 8 types of animals.

One of the goals of the park is to introduce young people and school students to the Qatari identity and environment by presenting all the types of trees and animals of the desert environment of the State of Qatar, pointing out that the municipality seeks to develop and serve the people in Al Shahaniya and increase the green areas of gardens and parks in the area.

Features of the Desert Park

• The Desert Park which has been allocated for families covers green areas with a total space of 13,803 square meters.
• It has 62 various wild trees such as Ghaf, umbrella thorn acacia, Christ's thorn jujube, Chinese wolfberry and acacia.
• The Park includes a pedestrian area with a space of 400 meters, 12 barbeque sitting areas, shaded play area for children, two areas for athletic training, toilets for men and women, a mosque, and a sitting area.
• It has a mini zoo that includes some domestic animals from the Qatari environment such as Oryx and reem deer.
