Want to explore Qatar and be one with nature? We have the perfect spot for you to relax, unwind, and take in this beautiful landscape. We are talking about the Al Thakira Mangroves!
The ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team is here with a guide for you to start exploring! Let's go!
Please note:
The Arabic word 'Al Thakira' means 'ammunition' in English. The Al Thakira Mangroves is located 17 km northeast of the city of Al Khor.
This area is known for the grey and white mangrove trees that grow abundantly here and have adapted to the salt water. These protected forests are home to the species Avicennia Marina. It's naturally serene, and we are sure you will love exploring it.
If you are a nature-lover, this place is a treat for you as you will get to spot migratory birds like herons and flamingos, crabs, little fish and gastropods in the area.
Another great activity that people love doing here is kayaking and stand-up paddling to explore the mangroves through the surrounding waters.
If you are a photography lover, capture the sunrise or sunset pics which will make for great Instagram posts!
You can also explore Al Thakira Beach and the beautiful coastline surrounded by mangroves on foot after you park your car.
What's prohibited at Al Thakira Beach?
The mangroves are about 17 km from Al Khor city. You can easily drive up to the location using Google Maps. You do not need a 4x4 to reach the place.
Once you reach the Al Khor Hospital roundabout, take the second exit until you reach the Al Thakira Mangroves Exit. You will see a fenced area with a gap for cars to turn right here. There is a bit of offroading involved till you reach the mangroves.
