Selling gold in qatar guide

Souq Waqif has the largest cluster of gold-jewellery vendors and is extremely popular among gold enthusiasts for purchasing or selling gold.

In case you are planning to sell your gold, the ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team has put together a guide to help you through the process.

Note: As a precautionary measure against fraud, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has warned people not to buy or sell gold jewellery without going through proper security and safety procedures.

No Objection Certificate for selling gold

In order to sell gold, it is necessary to obtain a “No-objection Certificate” from the police. For convenience, there is the Capital Security Section office located beside Al Najada Hotel in Souq Waqif, beside Gold Souq. A fee of QR 10 by bank card must be paid for this service.

It is important to note that there are different conditions and requirements set for men and women when selling gold.

Requirements for selling gold by women:

  • Present all the gold for inspection.
  • Present gold bills if any.
  • Present the Qatar ID or QID card of the gold owner for citizens and residents.
  • Present the passport of the gold owner for visitors.
  • Permits are not given to those below 18 years of age.

Requirements for selling gold by men:

  • Present all the gold for inspection.
  • Gold must belong to first-degree (mother, wife, sister, grandmother) or second-degree (aunt) relatives.
  • Present the original Qatar ID or QID of the gold owner.
  • Present gold bills if any.
  • Men's watches must be presented with a purchase invoice.
  • Gold bullion must be presented with a purchase invoice.
  • If a representative will be handling the process, the original Qatar ID or QID of the owner and the invoice is required to be presented.
  • Permits are not given to those below 18 years of age.
