Msheireb Tram is now up and running! And it's free! With the full opening of Doha Metro and now the Msheireb Tram, Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), the historical downtown of Doha and "the world's smartest and most sustainable fully built city district" is more accessible than ever.
Located in the heart of Doha, MDD is the flagship development project of Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of the Qatar Foundation. The real estate development company has successfully revived the old commercial district, making it Qatar's new destination for living, leisure, and business.
And with these recent developments in the public transportation of Qatar, getting around is easier not just for residents but also for visitors. If you're not yet familiar with the Tram and Msheireb Downtown Doha, scroll down to know all about them!

What is the Msheireb Tram?

Running around a closed-loop circuit with a 2.12-kilometer track, Msheireb's self-powered trams has 33 seats with onboard CCTV and WiFi. There are currently three trams going around 9 stops, with a tram arriving every 6 minutes.
The tramway network is one of the core features of MDD, planned to facilitate the transportation of residents and visitors around the city in an eco-friendly way. The MDD trams are fully air-conditioned and incorporate special light-filtering glass panels which inhibit over 90% of the heat from sunlight. The trams are also convertible and can be operated as open-air cars during the cooler winter months by removing the large glass panels. Last Tram will depart 15 minutes before closing time. Timings are according to the display screens at every stop.

How to get to Msheireb Tram from Msheireb Metro Station?
Msheireb Metro Station
Take the Msheireb station exit no. 5 which is the Downtown East exit and follow the signs until you get to the street. Walk along the left side for a few meters following the signs until you reach Msheireb Downtown Doha. You will see the Msheireb Tram station no. 2 on the right side. There will be a tree-shaped tram stop where visitors can sit while waiting for the tram.

Station 2 - Wadi Msheireb Station
Wadi Msheireb Station
Msheireb Metro Station, one of the world's biggest metro stations and the largest metro station in Qatar, is where the three lines - Red, Gold, and Green - interchange.
Park Hyatt Hotel is Hyatt Hotels Corporation's first Park Hyatt Hotel in Qatar. It is the third 5-star luxury hotel in Msheireb Downtown Doha. Located on Sikket Al Wadi street, Park Hyatt Doha has been built to US Gold LEED-certified standards, with a vision to embark on environmentally sustainable initiatives, and collaborations with local suppliers.
Department Store (soon to open) will feature world-renowned fashion brands from large flagship stores to boutiques.
Station 3 - Galleria Station

Souq Waqif Underpass, opened in 2018, is an underground tunnel connecting MDD with the Souq. There are retail shops along this walkway like Pick and Save Supermarket and Planet Organic.
Alwadi Hotel Doha - MGallery by AccorHotels is a 5-star boutique hotel and the first-ever MGallery hotel in Qatar. The hotel has 213 rooms and suites, with the Souq Suites and the Royal Suite offer balconies with views overlooking Souq Waqif.
Msheireb Museums, the four revived historic heritage houses in the heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha comprising of Bin Jelmood House, Mohammed Bin Jassim House, Company House, and Radwani House. These four houses offer a unique insight into Qatar's history.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel is the first hotel to open in Msheireb Downtown Doha. The 5-star hotel offers 117 rooms, 41 spacious suites, 91 serviced apartments, and blends of stylish contemporary design with traditional Qatari heritage and culture.
Barahat Msheireb is the largest open-air covered pedestrian square in the region. The square is the heart of MDD and is anchored by the Cultural Forum to the east and the world-renowned Mandarin Oriental Hotel to the west.

Station 8 - Al Kahraba Station

This will be the stop to access Al Kahraba street which will feature open-air streetside shopping, specialty food and beverage, and civic amenities to complement the daily needs of the office workers. Al Khail Apartments can also be reached at this stop.

Sora at Level 21 is the hotel's Japanese restaurant and lounge.
Opus offers locally inspired dishes with its menu curated by Celebrity Qatari chef Shams Al Qassabi and Michelin-starred chef Jean-François Rouquette.
Anis is an all-day healthy-food eatery with alfresco dining on Sikkat Wadi.

% Arabica is an internationally acclaimed coffee shop founded by Kenneth Shoji with its flagship store in Kyoto, Japan. The brand has more than 50 branches worldwide.
Empire Coffee is another specialty coffee shop and roaster with 3 other branches in Qatar. Call 5564 3308.
Station 6 - Al Baraha Station
Mandarin Oriental Hotel
IZU - French Mediterranean cuisine.
Mosaic - International cuisine from nine specialty open kitchens.
Mandarin Lounge - tea lounge with an open-air terrace.
Baraha Lounge - overlooking Barahat Msheireb.

Msheireb Downtown Doha
Msheireb Properties' flagship project is a QAR 20 billion development aimed at "reviving the old commercial heart of the city through a new architectural language that is based on community living, across a 31-hectare (76-acre) site."
Important locations and attractions are nearby, such as Souq Waqif, Corniche, the financial district, and Amiri Diwan. Hamad International Airport is 20 minutes away, making this project Qatar's soon-to-be new commercial district.
Key commercial and residential projects inside MDD are Barahat Msheireb, Msheireb Museums, Msheireb Prayer Grounds, Retail Galleria, Department Store, Sikkat Wadi Msheireb (the longest pedestrian street within the project) and Sahat Al Nakheel which will feature a boutique business hotel overlooking the square, as well as an exciting mix of restaurants and cafés.
All 100+ buildings in MDD will be either Gold or Platinum LEED-certified, with the district "adhering to the highest standards of green and smart urban development, creating a sustainable and efficient way of living while decreasing the impact on the environment."
In the near future, MDD will also be the home of Juniverse™, an innovative edutainment park for children that will be the first city in space.
