Look around and you will find inspirational women everywhere playing key roles in society. In Qatar, several women spark great motivation to the country’s people as they attain incredible achievements in their own fields.
Let's get to know some of them on the occasion of International Women's Day! It's time to take a leaf out of their books!
H.H. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser is best known to be a champion of quality education and youth development in Qatar. As the co-founder and chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, H.H. Sheikha Moza continues to inspire women to elevate themselves in the field of education and at the same time empower the youth.
As Minister of Public Health, H.E. Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari ensures quality and effective healthcare services for the people in Qatar. Among her responsibilities are spearheading public health service programs. H.E. the Minister has been at the frontlines of the successful progress of Qatar in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is the chairperson of institutions such as Qatar Museums, Doha Film Institute, Reach Out to Asia, and Qatar Leadership Centre. As written by Qatar Museums, “her objective is to invest in Qatar’s local community and celebrate the country’s diversity using the visual arts as a vehicle for communication”. She is also extremely active on her Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF), Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani is one of the leaders who make achieving the institution’s goals in the three core areas of education, science & research, and community development a success. It's inspiring to note that H.E. Sheikha Hind managed to complete her first Olympic-distance triathlon - the Hamburg Wasser 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series in Germany.
With the recognition of Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations, H.E. the Ambassador Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed Al Thani, represents the country through diplomatic means. At the same time, H.E. the Ambassador values the opportunity to honor and lead Qatari women towards greatness by actively supporting women in their causes.
Being the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Her Excellency Sheikha Asma Al Thani is known for multiple achievements in the field of sports. However, H.E. Sheikha Asma is best known for being the first Qatari woman to reach the North Pole.
Guided with an all-woman team, H.E. Sheikha Asma was able to challenge herself and claim her spot at the top of the North Pole, giving inspiration to many women and men alike to push themselves and brave great heights.
Her Excellency Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser Al Thani has her own long list of achievements to share. At the top of her list are her current designations in reputable companies in Qatar namely Vice-Chairman of NBK Holdings; Founder, Chairperson and CEO of Amwal; and Chairperson INJAZ Qatar and INJAZ Al Arab.
H.E. Sheikha Hanadi was recently named as one of the '50 Most Powerful Businesswomen' in the MENA region. H.E. Sheikha Hanadi has become such a big name in the business world, paving the way for other women to make the same impact in the near future.
Managing Director of Business Development, Deputy CEO & Chief Business Officer of Qatar Financial Centre Authority H.E. Sheikha Alanoud bint Hamad Al Thani was recently named one of the '50 Most Powerful Businesswomen' in the MENA region.
Prior to this recognition, H.E. Sheikha Alanoud served her community through youth empowerment. She was once the Qatar Country Representative and Director for Silatech, a Qatar-based social initiative that connects young people to employment opportunities across the Arab region.
First woman spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Lolwah Al Khater has made her mark as a woman who’s not afraid to speak up for her beliefs. In 2017, during the Qatar diplomatic crisis, H.E. Lolwah was one of the prominent voices defending the country; responding while neighboring countries made their accusations.
She also played a crucial role in the evacuation efforts of Afghan refugees in 2021. H.E. Lolwah Al Khater believes in the modern world view of Qatar where women have opportunities available to them while still being proud of its heritage.
Appointed CEO of the Doha Film Institute (DFI) in 2014, Fatma Al Remaihi oversees the strategic direction of DFI while continuously promoting the film culture in Qatar. Fatma participates in honing the next generation of creative professionals in Qatar through her role as Director of the Institute’s annual film events, Qumra and the Ajyal Film Festival.
While fulfilling her duties at the DFI, Fatma Al Remaihi never forgets to empower female filmmakers by debunking people’s stereotypes and encouraging other women in the film industry.
Dana Al Fardan is Qatar’s first female Qatari contemporary composer, singer, and songwriter. She’s also appointed as the official composer for Qatar Airways where she produces music. Qatar takes pride in Dana Al Fardan as she is one of the first female artists to emerge from the country. Aside from this, she also promotes the culture as a cultural ambassador for the Qatari Philharmonic Orchestra.

H.E. Dr. Hessa Al Jaber has had her fair share of accomplishments even before being appointed as the first Minister of Communication and Information Technology. Her credentials in the field of telecommunications and ICT has continued to show the capabilities of women to excel not only in women-rich fields but also in those industries that are highly participated by men.
Aside from this, H.E. Dr. Hessa Al Jaber has also contributed to empowering people with disabilities in Qatar as she created the Qatar Assistive Technology Center (MADA).
Tamkeen Training and Consulting Solutions is a company that specializes in facilitating Qatari women’s workforce advancement. Founder and Chairperson of Tamkeen Training and Consulting Solutions, Dr. Buthaina Al Ansari successfully promotes women in the business industry through this initiative.
Aside from this, Dr. Buthaina is also a member of the MENA Business Women’s Networks, a board member of Qatar Business Women’s Association, and a mentor at the Qatar Professional Women’s Network Circle.
A member of Qatar Foundation and an alumna of World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community, Aysha Al-Mudahka is one of the most prominent women in the entrepreneurial industry.
She has played a significant role in creating and leading Qatar Business Incubation Center as she served as the CEO from 2014 to 2019. Aysha also promotes women entrepreneurship through the Roudha Centre, which she also founded.
In all these different fields, we continue to see women living up to the standards and raising the bar high. These women not only excel in their own fields, but they also never forget to value and empower other women.
