The QNB-Qatar Stars League is the highest professional league in Qatari football. The league’s first season was played in 1963, although the first official season occurred in 1972. The league currently features 12 clubs, the top four clubs at the end of the regular league system participate in the Qatar Cup, which was formed in the 1994/95 season. Al Sadd holds the record for most championship wins, with 16 titles.

From the 2022-23 season onwards, according to the development strategy of the Qatar Stars League, the 11th and 12th ranked teams in the QNB Stars League will be relegated to the second division. Meanwhile, the 10th ranked team in the QNB Stars League will face the first-placed team in the Second Division in a playoff game to determine the team participating in the QNB Stars League competition for the next season.
