Maps connect us, help us navigate and tell stories about our communities, our world. CrisisMapping is a growing global space with humanitarians and technical communities joining to use maps for change. All welcome, no map or GIS experience necessary.

In this two hour session, participants will learn about uses of maps & GIS for humanitarian emergencies. You will get an overview on various mapping tools and location software. They will get some hands on exercises with maps. Sometimes you can microtask (small edits) or even create full maps. There are many ways these can be applied to the world around us.

Experts from Qatar Red Crescent Society, Qatar Computing Research Institute and Mapbox will join.

  • Overview of Mapbox and OSM - Sajjad Anwar, Mapbox
  • Introduction to MicroMappers and Leaflet - Ji Lucas, QCRI
  • Map exercises (in Arabic and English)
