More than 55 of the largest manufacturers and distributors of carpets in the Middle East are showcasing their products at the week-long third Qatar International Carpet Exhibition (QCarpet 2013) which opens today at the Doha Exhibition Centre.

Occupying an area of 5,000sqm, the exhibition features the biggest carpet companies, more than half of which are from Iran, the leading producers of handmade carpets. There is also a huge presence of carpet manufacturers from other countries including Turkey, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Egypt and Syria, among others.

Jaber AI Mansouri, Chief Executive Officer of Maraya Public Relations, organizer of the exhibition, said the huge turnout of participants on this year’s edition of the event reflects the strength of the Qatari market with regard to the carpet industry.

“QCarpet is the only exhibition in Qatar dedicated to the carpet industry offering various types of carpets across all levels. With the high turnout of exhibitors, the third edition maintains its standards buoyed by the country’s strong market and people’s passion to buy carpets,” said Al Mansouri, adding Qataris have superior taste for carpets, antiques, art and other things of value.

A highlight of the seven-day exhibition is live demonstrations by some companies on the intricate process of carpet weaving. Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani will officially launch the exhibition today. QCarpet 2013 is open to the public until Sunday from 10am to 10pm at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
