The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) in cooperation with McDonald’s Qatar announced this year’s Olympic Day Run during a press conference held at the QOC conference hall yesterday .

The Qatar Olympic Day Run in association with the QOC will be held on May 3, 2008 with an expected large number of participants who will cover the 3-km run. Interested individuals will be grouped into 10 different levels that include a separate category for female participants and the handicapped, according to a McDonald’s press release.



McDonald’s is a proud partner of the Beijing Olympics 2008, which will be held in Beijing, China, this August. McDonald’s Corporation renewed its sponsorship for the Olympic Games through the 2012 Olympic Games with positive impact on the local GCC markets.



Promoting healthy lifestyles has always been a key objective for the brand on the local and corporate levels and is crowned by the Olympic sponsorship. McDonald’s worldwide has been part of the Olympics through their partnership programme since 1996. At the local level, McDonald’s Qatar has been very active in supporting local sports events for the past years to the present from sponsoring various sports associations to schools sports day. McDonald’s encourages kids from their early childhood to develop their skills in the field of sports.

This Olympic Day Run goes beyond stories of joining and medals achievement, rewards and recognition that runners and organizers will receive but will be a story of a great nation and people who excels and reflects the professionalism in the field of sports”, said Kamal Al Mana.



For his part, Kamal Al Mana expressed his gratitude to QOC and to Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Secretary-General of QOC for the trust and belief they accorded to McDonald’s as a partner of the Qatar Olympic Day run.
