Nasta'liq Beginners for Adults

3, 4, 5, 6 January, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Nasta'liq was used and developed in Iran (where it was called Naskh Tal'eq) and the Ottoman states (as Tal'iq). It was invented by Mir Ali Al-Tabreezi in the 15 century and is characterised by its beauty, the accuracy of length of its letters and its clarity. Clay Inspired by A Falcon’s Eye: Tribute to Sheikh Saoud Al Thani

Drawing for Adults

Learn the basics of drawing and shading techniques through sketching in the exhibition and drawing in the Studio. Ottoman Design for Children aged 8 to 11

19, 20 January, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Students will gain basic knowledge of Ottoman islimi design, painting, gilding and brushwork techniques. As well as completing an illumination painting, by the end of the course, each student will have a small portfolio of painting and drawing studies to take home.

A Falcon's Eye: Photography for Adults

Curator-led tours of A Falcon's Eye

Join exhibition curator Dr Mounia Abudaya for a tour of MIA's special exhibition, A Falcon's Eye: Tribute to Sheikh Saoud Al Thani. Sheikh Saoud was responsible for acquiring the foundation collections for many of the QM museums, but as well as being an avid collector, he was also an environmentalist dedicated to saving rare species. Majlis Book Club for Adults

Join MIA to read and discuss a wide variety of books – whose topics link with Islamic Art history, museums and collections, and regional artistic themes.
