This weekend they are holding a 48hour Filmmaking Challenge, much as they did last year. This was extremely well-received last year with much excitement and engagement from the community. The difference is, this time, they are challenging teams to make a documentary. They will be providing the teams (of 2-4 people) with a number of recent local news stories from which they will take the topic of their documentary. There will be two winning films, one chosen by our judges and one chosen by the community (via YouTube), and these will be shown before some future DFI screenings as well as in our booth at the Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival.

The big idea behind the 48hr Filmmaking Challenges is that anyone can make a film— with equipment as simple as smart phones and standard software. They provide the framework and the push, and some great opportunities for work to be seen. It’s a simple way for the community to make something amazing.
