Qatar Museums Authority board chairperson HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and US actor Robert De Niro signing an agreement to launch a Doha international film festival, linked to the Tribeca festival De Niro founded in New York after the 9/11 attacks.
The first Tribeca Film Festival Doha, featuring 40 films, is to run from November 10-14, 2009 at the newly-opened Museum of Islamic Art. De Niro is a co-founder of the Tribeca festival aimed at revitalising cultural life in the Manhattan district of New York after the heavy loss of life with the collapse of the Twin Towers.
