The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) will be launching a regional campaign on Sunday to promote a series of events for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 2013 which will start on August 8.
In a press statement, QTA said one of the highlights of the festivity would be the opening of the Winasa Recreational City at the Doha Exhibition Centre (DEC). It will host various activities for children, adults and older people under the theme: “joy, recreation and shopping.”
Some of the activities would include theatre plays, presentations of cartoon characters and personalities, and games for all ages. Fees for the events would range from QR5, 10 to 15 except for the circus pegged up to QR150.
“There will be a corner for reading, drawing and colouring under the supervision of tourism officials,” QTA said.
Visitors can buy food items in restaurants inside the entertainment city.
They can also shop for products from China, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey and other countries. Perfumes, clothes, goods and accessories will be available in 150 stores in the 15,000-square metre fully air-conditioned facility.
Meanwhile, a Qatari heritage corner will be providing traditional foods for the guests.
QTA officials also said that the hall will be decorated from the interior with flags, balloons and cartoon characters in conformity with the vision of government authorities. Separate programmes and games are expected to be held outside the DEC.
All events, games and activities at the Winasa Recreational City will run from August 8 to September 15.
Hend Zainal, director for marketing and public relations at QTA, told reporters yesterday that they want to attract residents from GCC countries especially Saudi Arabia to visit Qatar next month.
She said they will be using all media platforms (television, radio, print and online media including social media sites) in promoting the events for the much-awaited festivity.
The DEC, Villaggio, City Center, Landmark, Hyatt Plaza, Lagoona, Al Khor, and the Heritage Village will host the events for the 10-day affair.
Zainal disclosed that they have partnered with various stakeholders for the staging of the activities intended for all ages.
The public can watch parade shows, Japan drummer, Popay play, music festivals, Angry Bird, magic shows, Zuma-Zuma, Rola-Rola, Snow White and other shows in all the eight venues starting at 2pm from August 8 to 17.
Besides the traditional spectacular fireworks , Zainal also announced the inclusion of new activities this year: the paragliding and a shooting event at Lusail. A fee of QR150 is being charged for one session.
