DFI UK Cinema Showcase returns to the Museum of Islamic Art on March 28 and 29 with screenings of the 1949 British Classic The Third Man.
The film, directed by Carol Reed, won an Academy Award and the Grand Prix from the Cannes Film Festival.
Shortly after World War II, The Third Man follows the novelist Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) as he visits Vienna while it is under international control and rife with corruption.
Holly soon finds himself investigating the suspicious death of his old friend, the black marketeer Harry Lime (Orson Welles), and so begins this celebrated tale of love and murder.
Reed’s acknowledged noir masterpiece, The Third Man features brilliant performances by Cotten, Welles, Alida Valli and Trevor Howard in a finely honed, masterful script by Graham Greene.
The screenings are in partnership with the British Council and the Qatar Museums Authority to celebrate Qatar UK 2013.
There will be three screenings of The Third Man at the MIA Auditorium. The first screening will be on March 28 at 7pm, and on March 29 at 4pm and 7pm.
Tickets for The Third Man are now on sale at www.dohafilminstitute.com and available from the MIA DFI Ticket Outlet (check the website for opening hours and location) from March 23. Tickets are priced at QR35 for the general public and a special discounted rate of QR25 for students.
DFI UK Cinema Showcase launched in February with The Red Shoes by Powell and Pressburger, and will run monthly until Fall 2013. April will feature screenings of Secrets & Lies (1996; director - Mike Leigh) on 25 and 26 and Kes (1969; director - Ken Loach) on 26 and 27, with tickets available from March 28.
