The stage is all set for Qatar’s first ever media and advertising exhibition and conference — Media Expo Qatar 2008 — to unveil at the Qatar International Exhibition Centre, today.



The four-day event, organised by Dar Al Sharq, is expected to attract the media savvy in the region, with over 50 of the best local and international media organisation showcasing their products and opportunities.



H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of Information, Arts and Heritage will open the exhibition at 5pm today. The event was conceptualised to bring together the media and advertisement establishments from the region and other parts of the world under one roof for exchange of ideas and developing



business networking.



“With the rapid growth and development of the media in this region we thought it was appropriate to host a media exhibition on such a sacle,” said Eiz Eldin Abdurahman, Executive Manager of the expo. “Media Expo Qatar gives a platform to media professionals from the press, television and advertising to engage dialogue and exchange information on the latest trends in this field.”



A sprawling exhibition area of 10,000sqm has been set up with designer pavilions, conference room, media room and all technical facilities. The event will be attended by numerous delegations representing leading media, publishers, reporters, investors, trainers, website designers and advertising companies.



The expo is an ideal forum for enhancing the information environment in the region. Delegations representing 45 newspapers in the GCC region, Yemen and other Arab countries are attending the function. Media conglomerates, publishing houses, television, radio channels, advertising agencies will showcase their products and services.



The event will also organise a three-day seminar, from tomorrow, featuring top Arab journalists and legal experts to discuss media-related issues in the Arab and GCC countries.



Eminent speakers from the industry will discuss the scope and prospects for business in the world of media during the three-day conference. Issues like Relationship between Editorial Policy and Advertising, The Issue of Identity in the GCC Press and Media Freedom in the Arab World will be disscused by Abdulrahman Al Musfir Al Ajemi from Kuwait, Turki bin Abdullah Al Sudeiri from Saudi Arabia and Attorney Hani Al Dahleh from Jordan, respectively.



The vibrant grandeur of Qatar’s heritage will be displayed in a unique photo exhibition at the venue. Gulf Colours, the company which preserved Qatar’s history by collecting and documenting unique pictures of the country, its people and heritage will showcase photos collected since 1947.



The company will display 70 unique pictures which reflect the historical monuments in the Arabian Peninsula, birds, falconry, people, shops, streets, forts, vendors, among other outstanding photos.



Qatar Vision Company will display photos of Qatar, which have been taken recently. The photo collection replicates Qatar’s magnificence as a modern state and a centre of regional and international conferences. Other major local participants in the exhibition include QPost, Ministry of Interior, Qatar Cinema and Film Distributing Company, Qatar Radio and Television Corporation, apart form the sponsors Qatar Telecommunications (QTel), Qatar Media and Al Jazeera network and the organiser Dar Al Sharq.
