Traveling to Qatar is no longer restricted to business – tourism has become an attraction

The Qatari government is actively encouraging diversification by creating an economy based on non-reliance on oil and gas. This diversification is creating vast opportunities in the hospitality sector and is stimulating construction of luxurious, up-market hotels, restaurants and leisure facilities. The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is actively working towards establishing Qatar as one of the world’s quality destinations for leisure, business, education and sport. With events such as the G77 + China Conference in June 2006 and Doha Asian Games scheduled in December 2006, Qatar’s position is elevated in the global arena. Qatar’s $15 billion master plan focuses on the creation of new hotels and tourist attractions, and it is designed to develop a tourism base that will double the number of tourists from 700,000 to 1.4 million by 2010.

Diyafa 2009 offers unique opportunity for hospitality and food suppliers

In 2006, Qatar witnessed for the first time, a hospitality exhibition that coincided with the country’s construction and touristic rise. The fourth edition of Diyafa in 2009 is expected to attract more international exhibitors from many international countries as multi-billion USD opportunities are waiting to be grasped, and will provide a unique opportunity for hospitality suppliers to meet prominent Gulf businessmen and decision makers from the Gulf and the Middle East

Reinventing Qatar as a premier tourist destination

Between 2005 and 2009, Qatar is aiming to construct more than 37 hotels that include the most renowned hotel chains, as well as other touristic initiatives such as the Pearl Island – a $2.5 billion man-made residential and leisure complex located off the Doha shoreline. The continuous growth in tourists led to a construction project for a new airport in Qatar. The construction work on the $5.5 billion New Doha International Airport began in January 2005 and is scheduled for completion in three phases beginning in 2009. The new airport will initially be able to handle 12 million passengers a year, rising to 50 million once fully developed in 2015. This will clearly position Qatar as a global hub and a world-class aviation centre linking the East to the West.

Salon Culinaire at Diyafa 2009

For the fourth time in Qatar, professionals and connaisseurs in the food art industry will have the opportunity to compete and show their savoir- faire and experience in the culinary world. The Diyafa ‘Salon Culinaire’ will be a unique opportunity for hospitality, food suppliers, catering companies to meet, witness and enjoy this event.
The Salon Culinaire will feature a spectacular display and outstanding competitions such as ice, fruit & vegetables and chocolate carvings, artistic pastry competitions, mezzeh and many more. The Salon Culinaire will be judged by a panel of international and renowned chefs.
