During the Francophone days which will take place from Saturday March 12 to Thursday March 31, under the patronage of His Excellency Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser AL-ALI, Minister of Sports and Culture of the State of Qatar, the French Embassy and the French Institute in Qatar, in cooperation with the Cultural Village Katara, Souq Waqif, and FNAC/FIFTY ONE EAST, present the exhibition “ALEPPO” by the French-Syrian photograph, Ammar ABD RABBO.
Born in Damascus in 1966, Ammar Abd Rabbo has been living in France since he was 12. Rich of a 25 years career, he has worked for the most important newspapers in the world such as Time Magazine, Le Monde or Der Spiegel. He has made the covers of over 60 magazines.
This exhibition marks the fifth anniversary of the Syrian Revolution, it pays homage to the martyr city and its inhabitants. For 5 years, the Syrian population has been trying to survive and still aspires to dignity and freedom.
The 31 displayed photographs show the “eternal” city of Aleppo, its daily life in times of war: the rubble of buildings and streets blocked by bedspreads and rugs to protect people from snipers, especially school children returning from school. This exhibition is a testimony of Aleppo’s struggle for survival: a city under siege which, as many other cities in Syria, suffers from hunger and bombing.
The exhibition has already been shown in Paris and in different cities in France (Alençon, Mandelieu) as well as in Berlin, Germany during a collective exhibition for Syria. Moreover, one of the images shown in Doha was chosen and exhibited by worldwide famous artist Banksy for his “Dismaland” project in England.
The opening of the exhibition “ALEPPO” will take place on the 15th of March at 7 pm in Katara, building 22.
The exhibition will go on until the 30th of March on the building 22, gallery 2
