The Illumined Word. Historic Qur’ans: Codicology and Conservation

The conference aims to introduce the materiality of the historic Qur’an and its features. It will not explore the content of the book but rather its physical aspects, from the text block to the bookbinding, the decoration and the illumination. A series of presentations delivered by internationally renown scholars, art historians and conservators will explore the Art of the Qur’an and its great diversity, through the centuries, from Spain to Southeast Asia.These lectures, free of charge, are designed for a wide audience as well as for conservators, librarians, conservation students, manuscript experts and art historians, and other interested professionals or learners.
