The Arab Music Festival will be held on April 19th at the Qatar National Theatre under the auspices of Qatar's Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage. The four-day festival aims to revive Arab musical heritage in recognition of giants in this art such as Umm Kolthum, Abdel Wahab, Laila Murad, and Asmahan among others, in addition to reminiscing the times of musical prosperity through sensational singing in the Arab world, said Head of the festival's organizing committee Dr. Hassan Rachid.
There are four musical nights, the first featuring Amal Maher who will sing favorites by Umm Kulthum. The second night will present Abdel Wahab's musical legacy by the voice of Gulf artists Abdullah al-Ruwaished and Egyptian singer Ghada Ragab, he indicated.
The third night will present the Shami song with Syrian and Jordanian singers Wa'ad al-Bahary and Ayman Tayseer respectively as well as distinguished artist Wadi' al-Safi, he added. Qatari singer Fahd al-Kabisi will close the festival with a selection of songs from the Gulf and the Arab world accompanied by Tunisian artist Dersaf Hamdani singing Tunisian and Arab tunes.
Rachid asserted that the Ministry is eager to present all what could elevate the tastes of audiences in different creative and artistic fields by showcasing culturally varied acts which it gives great importance to while Doha remains an oasis of Arab creativity and culture.
There will be a number of seminars with the festival during the morning period which will discuss the Arab song scene and means of advancing it in light of musical heritage with the participation of musical and art experts in the Arab world including media personality Wagdy al-Hakim, Egyptian poet Emad Hassan, Dr. Victor Sehab from Lebanon, and the master of Iraqi maqam Hussein al-A'thami.
