Eighty ballet dancers are all set to impress an audience of hundreds during the Sheraton Doha’s annual Stars Ballet Gala tomorrow at the hotel’s Al Majlis Hall.

Around 500 people are expected to witness the performance by the young ballet dancers after months of training under ballet mistress Madame Isabelle Mojansky.

“Each class will be appearing five times onstage in the programme, which will feature 35 pieces comprising classical and modern ballet and jazz,” Mojansky said.

The performance will highlight some of the most famous ballet pieces, such as Coppelia by Delibes and Nutcracker and Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky as well as works by other renowned composers, including Ponchielle and Orff.

“To be a good dancer, one has to have a background in ballet since it is the main discipline which is aimed at perfection of the craft,” Mojansky said, speaking from 26 years of experience in teaching ballet, 21 of which were spent in Doha.

She said ballet not only honed the dancing skills of the students but also developed other qualities in them, such as discipline, confidence and responsibility, among others.

“When I came to Doha, people were excited because ballet was something new,” she recalled, adding her students had grown in number and were a mix of different nationalities, all sharing a common passion for ballet.

Mojansky said the greatest achievement of a ballet teacher was seeing students evolve in the craft and in their expression, especially how feelings are reflected on their face during the performance.

Besides the performance, an added attraction will be colourful costumes designed by Graciela Evans, who has been designing costumes for the past few years for the annual show.

Tickets priced at QR40 for adults and QR20 for children below 14 are available at the Sheraton F&B office and at the door an hour before the opening of the show. All the proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Qatar Red Crescent Society.

The doors will open at 3pm and the gala will begin at 3.30pm.
