Katara is gearing up to host the second edition of the annual Katara European Jazz Festival from October 28 to November 1.

This was announced yesterday during a press conference organised by Katara and the embassies of Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

Cultural Village Foundation — Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said: “As an international genre of music, international jazz captivates human senses and feelings. Katara, as a hub of cultures, works to offer all kinds of musical culture as boundless human language to boost cultural ties and promote cultural partnerships.

“We expect to witness a spectacular success of the festival, which will be rich with performances comprising global bands represented by renowned artists,” he added.

The envoys hoped that the event will see a significant visitor turnout similar to that in the first edition and stressed that the festival is a unique event which fully embraces Katara’s vision and spirit.

Performances will be held in the courtyard behind Katara’s Building 5. The square bears a unique sense of intimacy and has hosted events. Each of the seven participating embassies will present one jazz group as representative of their countries.

French Ambassador Eric Chevallier told this daily: “The event is important because it brings together different countries and Qatar, especially Katara, because music is cultural link.

“France is participating for the second time. We were one of the founding European countries of the event. We are happy to have two new European countries participating this year — the Netherlands and Spain — and I am sure in the future we will have more,” he added. (Source)
