D’reesha Performing Arts Festival is a pioneering festival that will integrate multiple disciplines, ranging from theatre and poetry to research, education, and technology.
It will explore the nature of performing arts and engage a new generation of innovative artists. A year-round performance lab that aims to engage and empower students will culminate in an annual festival that transforms Education City into an open stage.
This year's D’reesha Festival returns for its second edition, which will be held during Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ on days when no matches are being held in Education City. Qatar Foundation intends to enrich the experience of its visitors by introducing them to some of the landmarks of Islamic and Arab culture at this year's edition of the festival.
Qatar Foundation is fueling visitors' experiences by highlighting Islamic and Arab cultures in this year’s edition. Inspired by the travels of Muslim explorer Ibn Battuta across the Middle East and Afro-Eurasia, the festival will follow the overarching theme of ‘Travel & Adventure’ across different disciplines including music, theatre, poetry, storytelling, education, science and much more.
Travel & Adventure is not only about exposing the audience to new parts of the world, but about building a deeper understanding between our cultures and educating the visitors about Arab cultures in an entertaining yet engaging way. The journey of the festival will further help to capture the Golden Age of Islam in a more modern way.
