Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Short Film, 'Buzkashi Boys' is set against the dramatic landscape of contemporary Afghanistan and the national sport of buzkashi – a brutal game of polo played with a dead goat – ‘Buzkashi Boys’ is a groundbreaking film about two best friends, a charismatic street urchin and a defiant blacksmith's son, who strive to realise their dreams as they make their way to manhood in one of the most war-torn countries on Earth. Shot entirely on location in Kabul by an alliance of Afghan and international filmmakers, ‘Buzkashi Boys’ is a heartrending look at the life that goes on beyond the headlines of war in Afghanistan. This film is 29 minutes long.

DFI is proud to partner with the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) to present a film series in conjunction with Ferozkoh: Tradition and Continuity in Afghan Art, a temporary exhibition at MIA.

The films in the series have been carefully selected to show the complex and diverse faces of Afghanistan. Chosen for their complementary themes and evocative stories, the films will ignite curiosity and help to bring the exhibition alive.
