The posh Hamad International Airport (HIA) goes with the culinary tagline "A taste of everything, from gourmet to on-the-go." Well, we won't be surprised as it was recently ranked as the 5th 'Best Airport for Dining' in the world at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2018 -- the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry -- that took place in Stockholm, Sweden last March 21.

Home to Qatar Duty Free (QDF), the oasis-themed HIA maintained its number 5 position as the world's ‘Best Airport for Dining’ for the second consecutive year.

The new addition to HIA's plethora of achievements and recognition is truly not difficult to decipher at all as passengers travelling through the airport can also enjoy an extensive selection of cuisine from all corners of the globe, from gourmet restaurants to cafes and fast food outlets strategically placed across the South and North Duty Free Plazas, as well as along Concourses A, B, C, D and E.

Head of QDF Thabet Musleh said that they greatly value the opinion of their passengers, and will continue to push the boundaries and to set new standards for the industry to continue to ensure that the QDF in HIA is an experience worth traveling for.

With this latest accolade for one of the world's best airports in place, here are five restaurants that prove why the HIA deserves to be called the '5th Best Airport in the World for Dining!'

Writer's note: The restaurants on this list are arranged accordingly, so let's start if off with a traditional appetizer!

1. Qataf Cafe

The Qataf, which is considered the national flower of Qatar, is the inspiration behind this Arabic-themed cafe. The concept is to combine traditional Arabic hospitality with a contemporary design. Passengers and transitees are praising the little wonder as Qataf's interior contrasts the warm and rich ambiance of a majlis –- complete with comfortable Arabic cushions and intricate Moroccan lamps –- with a modern, copper and stainless steel counter that was handmade in Ireland exclusively for them. And although their services and goods are somehow on the pricey side, a sweet tooth just can't resist Qataf's signature coffee and sweets adorned with mezze style platters for sharing and other traditional Arabic dishes with a modern edge such as the classic Moroccan tagine.

If you think that that's it for the diverse dining scene at HIA, then you're wrong. The above-mentioned restaurants are just a portion of what you can eat at the 2,200 hectare-big airport. The truth is, if you happen to pass by Eat Street -- HIA's version of a food court -- you'll be able to enjoy cuisines from around the world at a relatively lower price.

Some of the stalls up for grabs at Eat Street are; Camden Food, offering organic sandwiches, a fresh salad bar and dried fruits; Negroni, an Italian concept with a variety of pastas and pizzas; Azka, offering Indian and Arabic cuisine; Red Mango, offering frozen yogurts, coffees and juices; Soho Coffee, offering organic food and beverage; Burger King, offering flame-grilled burgers, including the signature original Whopper; and many more!

Truly, there's a always a fit for every type of stomach transiting through Qatar's gateway to the world. Besides being the fifth best airport in the world for dining, HIA was as well ranked the 4th ‘Best Airport for Shopping.’
