You'll find plenty of authentic Mexican appetisers, tacos, burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, street food and a selection of signature dishes based on traditional Mexican recipes handed down over generations like mole, and desserts like churros that are always a family favourite.

The ILoveQatar.net team (ILQ) had the opportunity to try out Isla's upcoming 'Lunes Taquero' or Taco Mondays, and other dishes on their newest menu. Read about our experience here!

Chef Jesus brings his authentic Mexican touch to the Isla menu

Isla has been named Trip Advisor’s Travellers Choice in 2021, and it’s easy to understand why. Chef Jesus Ruiz has been in Qatar for just nine months and his joining the Isla family has added a new flavour to the popular Mexican restaurant. He’s revamped the menu and added some more mouthwatering authentic and traditional Mexican dishes to the menu using recipes handed down to him from his mother, grandmother and aunts! He’s worked in different hotels and restaurants all over the world for over 20 years, where he cooked up a storm with his authentic Mexican cooking style and flair for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.

But that’s not all. He’s just introduced the ‘Lunes Taquero’ which will be available exclusively on Mondays starting from 20 September 2021.

What can you find at ‘Lunes Taquero’?

The exclusive 'Lunes Taquero' is made up of eight different kinds of Isla tacos, each one more flavourful than the other. You can select 12 of your favourite tacos or try some new ones by picking and selecting what you want from the Lunes Taquero menu every Monday when you need something flavourful, colourful and zesty to get you through the rest of the week.

Lunes Taquero has been designed and developed by Isla’s Head Chef Jesus, a Mexican who believes that authenticity is everything and brings it to all his dishes in the restaurant, including the tacos you’ll get only on Mondays.

Let’s dig into the special tacos and their descriptions here:

1. Tacos Al Pastor: Traditional chicken pastor (Ciudad de Mexico style) with onion, coriander, avocado cream and green salsa in a homemade corn tortilla.
2. Tacos de Pollo al Pibil: Traditional chicken Pibil from Yucatan with salsa Xnipec (choice of spicy or not spicy) in a flour tortilla.
3. Tacos Pescado Baja: Famous Baja fish with tempura in tamarin salsa, coriander dressing, topped with Pico de mango and onion pickles in a flour tortilla.
4. Tacos Tropical Mariscos: Fresh tropical seafood with coconut sauce and red dragon fruit relish in a corn tortilla.
5. Tacos de Papa: Mexican homemade sautéed potato, with jalapeno, onion and capsicum topped with avocado, coriander in a flour tortilla.
6. Tacos De Rajas Con Crema: Creamy julienned jalapeno mixed with mushroom, onion, green capsicum, topped with coriander and cheese in a flour tortilla. This is a Chef Jesus favourite.
7. Tacos De Asada: Beef tenderloin marinated Sonora style, cooked on a grill and topped with traditional guacamole, caramelised onion and Chili Toreado in a corn tortilla.
8. Tacos Campechano: Mixed carne asada and homemade Mexican chorizo, topped with traditional guacamole, caramelised onion and crispy cheese in a corn tortilla. This is one of Chef’s Jesus’ favourite tacos as well!

The 'Lunes Taquero' (12 tacos) is available exclusively on Mondays starting 20 September 2021 at QR 168.

Isla has a lot more on the menu for you to enjoy

If you're looking for more than a Monday Taco fix, you can find other authentic and traditional Mexican dishes on their vast menu picked and chosen especially for their taste and texture so you feel like you're actually in Mexico.

There's also a business lunch on the Isla menu which is fantastic at QR 68 per person and includes some of the restaurant's signature dishes. It's available from Sunday to Thursday (12 pm - 4 pm). Check out the menu HERE!

Isla radiates happiness, joy and vibrancy

Isla is a colourful place that's both homely and warm. You'll fall in love with the place the minute you walk through its doors. The place looks catchy and you'll find yourself coming again and again to this cantina-style dining place not just for the food, but also for the ambience. You'll find coloured booths where you can enjoy your meal in privacy with your loved ones, huge mirrors add depth to the space and the colourful wall which depicts Mexico's culture through its 'Cinco De Mayo' festival held every year is a visual treat.

What adds to this is the friendly staff that is there to help you with whatever you need and that, too, with a ready smile and a spring in their step!

Treat your loved ones to a special VIP meal

Isla even has a VIP room that opens up from a door in the wall. As you walk up the short flight of stairs to the room, you'll feel like you're being serenaded by the mariachi band painted along the wall. The VIP room is beautiful with a huge 12-seater square table complete with comfortable chairs with cushions so you can really get comfy. The different coloured bottles that line one side of the room add to the ambience.

Here, in the VIP room, you can celebrate different occasions like the upcoming Mexican Day celebrations on Thursday 16 September 2021, with friends and families the Isla way!
