Onam is a 10-day harvest festival celebrated by the people of Kerala, a southern state in India. This year Onam starts on 30 August and ends on 8 September.

Onam Sadhya (the feast eaten during Onam) is one of the main parts of the celebrations. The grand meal is generally eaten on a banana leaf and consists of more than 25 dishes.

Dishes include avial (vegetables cooked in a coconut base), theeyal (mixed vegetable curry), puli inji (tamarind & ginger chutney), erissery (mashed beans and pumpkin in a coconut gravy), sambar (lentil soup with vegetables), raw banana chips. The Sadhya also has multiple desserts like palada pradhaman (made of rice, jaggery and milk), etc.
