Onam is a harvest festival celebrated by the people from the state of Kerala, India. Onam festivities are spread over 10 days and this year the festival started on August 12 and will end on August 23.
Onam Sadhya (the meal or feast eaten during Onam) is an integral part of the celebrations. It is an elaborate spread consisting of over 24 dishes, that include avial (vegetables cooked in a coconut base), theeyal (mixed vegetable curry), puli inji (tamarind & ginger chutney), erissery (mashed beans and pumpkin in a coconut gravy), sambar (lentil soup with vegetables), raw banana chips, multiple desserts like palada pradhaman (made with rice, jaggery and milk), etc. This meal is generally eaten on a banana leaf. It is an experience you must try at least once!
