The Ministry of Public Health (Qatar) -MoPH - has just announced that two more cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Qatar, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to three. The two Qatari individuals were evacuated from the Islamic Republic of Iran on a government-chartered plane on 27 February 2020 and have been under full quarantine and isolation since landing in Qatar.

Who are these confirmed cases?

The three people who have tested positive for the virus returned from Iran on 27 February on a government-chartered private plane that landed at a private airport, not at Hamad International Airport, along with other passengers returning from Iran. All the passengers were placed under full quarantine and underwent tests, and the three confirmed cases who tested positive were, then, immediately admitted to the Hamad Medical Corporation Communicable Disease Centre as soon as they were tested positively and isolated under strict infection control measures. They are all in a stable condition.

The MOPH reiterates that the patients have not had any engagement with the general public and the risk of infection to the public remains low.

The MOPH is fully prepared to combat the spread of the virus in Qatar by instituting quarantine measures for people returning from infected areas and continues to monitor quarantined individuals for symptoms.

MoPH taking all precautionary measures necessary

The MoPH is taking all measures to limit the further spread of the virus and asks the public to take caution and implement the simple protective measures by frequent washing of hands or using hand sanitiser, avoiding sick people, keeping social distancing and coughing or sneezing into the sleeve of a flexed elbow or use a tissue which then should be discarded into a closed bin.

The Ministry also advises all those who have been in any of the countries where the virus has been reported in the last 14 days and suffer from cough and fever to come forward for testing or to call the hotline of the MoPH at 16,000.

The MoPH is working closely with all partners and with the World Health Organisation to ensure the implementation of latest guidelines and the appropriate public health measures and asks the public to regularly check the ministry's website for the latest advisories and information.

The MoPH urges the public to extend their help and cooperation with the health authorities in the implementation of the public heath measures and cautions against listening to unreliable sources of information and rumours.

The HMC Ambulance Service is working side-by-side with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH Qatar), Hamad International Airport and other partners to ensure appropriate screening and precautionary measures are in place to ensure the coronavirus (COVID-19) does not spread in Qatar, and the one case that was recorded yesterday is the only case, as tweeted by the MoPH.
